Massive Ameloblastoma Requiring Awake Nasal Fiberoptic Intubation

چکیده
Ameloblastomas are rare tumors that arises from the odontogenic epithelium. Although benign and slow growing, an extensive lesion may cause airway obstruction, making bag-mask ventilation intubation a significant challenge. Here, we present 54-year-old male in respiratory distress with 18x15x13 cm submandibular mass causing compromise. The tumor was extensive, occupying most of oral cavity. Unable to perform direct laryngoscopy because burden, performed awake nasal fiberoptic secure airway. Successful achieved as well subsequently tracheostomy. We provide discussion on associated challenges management options for patients ameloblastomas.

Learning fiberoptic intubation for awake nasotracheal intubation
Background Fiberoptic nasotracheal intubation (FNI) is performed if it is difficult to open the mouth or if intubation using laryngoscope is expected to be difficult. However, training is necessary because intubation performed by inexperienced operators leads to complications. Methods Every resident performed intubation in 40 patients. Success of FNI was evaluated as the time of FNI. First in...

Awake blind nasal endotracheal intubation is a modification of Sir Ivan Magill's technique of blind nasal intubation under ether anaesthesia.1 The introduction of neuromuscular blocking agents, facilitating oral intubation under direct vision, led to a decline in popularity of Magill's method and it is now used sparingly, if at all.2 Where the sedated patient remains awake and co-operative, the...

Correspondence To the Editor: In a single‑center, prospective, randomized double‑blind clinical study comparing dexmedetomidine‑ midazolam and sufentanil‑midazolam sedation regimens for awake fiberoptic intubation (AFOI) in 50 patients with difficult airways due to limited mouth opening, Li et al. show that both dexmedetomidine and sufentanil are effective as an adjuvant for AFOI under airway t...
متن کاملAirway regional anesthesia for awake fiberoptic intubation.
Providing anesthetic care to the patient with a difficult airway keenly interests anesthesiologists and is a situation that often provokes much anxiety and trepidation. However, dealing effectively and safely with these patients is a skill that all anesthesiologists should be familiar with and are expected to perform with competency. Difficult airways arise from multiple causes. Access to the o...
متن کاملPreparing to perform an awake fiberoptic intubation.
Fiberoptically guided tracheal intubation represents one of the most important advances in airway management to occur in the past thirty years. Perhaps its most important role is in management of the anticipated difficult airway. This is a situation in which the dangers of encountering the life-threatening "can't intubate, can't ventilate" situation can be avoided by placement of an endotrachea...
